The 6th annual “Dancing With Missouri Stars” will be May 17th at the Southwell Complex on the Columbia College campus. Each year esteemed members in the mid-Missouri area are selected and paired with a professional ballroom dance instructors from Ballroom Academy of Columbia and Studio B, have 3 month’s to take lessons and then compete for the prestigious DWMS trophy. The audience members vote with money which all goes to benefit the Missouri Contemporary Ballet professional dance company.

A Kickoff Party was held Sunday, February 12 at Room 38 to announce this year’s celebrity dancers: Joe Bechtold, Erica Beshore, Betsy Farris, Dr. Jerry Murrell, Dr. Sanveej Ravipudi, Kathy Ritter, Dr. Barbara Tellerman and Chuck Witt.

School of Missouri Contemporary Ballet opening Fall 2011

The Missouri Contemporary Ballet will open a dance school in the Fall of 2011.

The School of Missouri Contemporary Ballet will offer professional training at every level from the talented team of Missouri Contemporary Ballet dancers and will cover creative movement, ballet, jazz dancing and modern and contemporary dance. In addition, open adult classes will also be available.

Classes will be offered for those age 4 and up. Registration is now open.

Missy Martinette Hills wins 2011 Dancing With the Missouri Stars

Missy Martinette Hills, publisher of LO PROFILE magazine, was voted champion of the 2011 Dancing with the Missouri Stars benefit.

The annual competition, which pairs local celebrities with professional dancers in a round of high-energy competition, benefits the Missouri Contemporary Ballet, the Columbia, Mo.-based not-for-profit professional ballet company.

Coming in second place was Columbia attorney Jennifer Bukowsky. Third place honors went to Realtor Barb Schlemeier with House of Brokers.

Schlemeier and local restaurateur Billy Giordano tied for the Judges’ Choice category.

All told, the event, which was held at the University of Missouri’s Hearnes Center, raised $109,000.

Also at the event, Creative and Executive Director Karen Grundy announced the School of Missouri Contemporary Ballet will open this fall.

The audience members vote with money which all goes to benefit the Missouri Contemporary Ballet professional dance company.

This year’s celebrity dancers are: Priya Batchu, Jennifer Bukowsky, Billy Giordano, Dr. Dan Hoernschemeyer, Missy Martinette Hills, David Orr, Barb Schlemeier and Scott Wilson.
